We Are Still Here

Huzzah! What a joy it is to find a movie like We Are Still Here!  Reminiscent of other horror films made during the 80s, We Are Still Here follows a similar “slow-burn” format that is used in other films like House of the Devil and Innkeepers.

After losing their son in a vehicle accident Paul and Anne move to a home in the country to finish grieving and hopefully start a new life. After moving into the area the couple not only begin receiving visits from vengeful ghosts in the basement, but the living neighbors are starting to act suspicious like the characters from Rosemary’s Baby. The movies comes to an epic blood-bath finale when the neighbors become increasingly suspicious, and the spirits become more violent with their killings.

What makes this movie work for me is the slow-burn story line, and the setting.  With regards to the story, I was given enough time to get to know the characters and love them, making it so when crap hits the fan I’m actually concerned for their well-beings. The house the movie takes place in is something I especially admire about the film.  It’s a large mansion located in the country during the winter; it makes me want to do is curl up to a good book with a scented apple-pie candle and a movie so I can toss the book on the floor two minutes later.
